A woman police constable committed suicide allegedly by hanging self at her house in Rajiv Nagar in the city.

C D Sujatha (38), daughter of C Devakumar and Yashoda of Rajiv Nagar is the deceased.

She was a resident of the house opposite Sooryanarayanaswamy Temple in the locality.

She had been serving at City Special Branch (CSB) in the complex of police commissioner’s office from the past few years. Prior to this, she had also served in women’s police station, on court duty serving summons.

Sujatha’s father discovered the incident, when he went to the first floor of the house on Friday morning. Sujatha had been living with her son Lohit in the first floor, while her parents were living in the ground floor. Even though the time was past 11, Sujata had not gone out for work. Devakumar who grew curious, went to the house and broke open the door with the help of neighbours, it is learnt. Sujatha was hanging from the ceiling fan.

Sujatha’s mother is on tour along with the former’s son from May 25. Udayagiri police, who are investigating into the case, informed her over phone and she is expected to return by night.

While there are no reasons yet to ascertain the cause behind her extreme step, a police inspector had called on her cellphone in the night, according to two of her cellphones seized from the house. The inspector was earlier in Mysore, before his transfer elsewhere.

Post divorce, Sujatha’s former husband married another woman and has a daughter, it is learnt. Police commissioner K L Sudheer visited the spot.
