BEML, RBI score as action resumes

BDFA League

The sight of an ambulance and a doctor at the Bangalore Football stadium showed that lessons had been well learned by the organisers as BDFA’s local leagues had a smooth resumption after a gap of more than two months here.

On March 21, the Super Division and ‘A’ Division matches were indefinitely postponed due to the on-field death of Bangalore Mars’ footballer D Venkatesh, who collapsed on the pitch after coming on as a substitute against South Western Railway.

KSFA now has bought an ambulance equipped with emergency life-saving equipment and hired a physician for the smooth conduct of the matches.

Narrow win for RBI

When the league restarted on Friday, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) edged out Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) 4-3 in the ‘A’ Division before Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) eased past Controllerate of Inspection Electronics (CIL) 2-0 in the Super Division encounter.

Rajesh Jr (11th minute) and Kalander (82nd) were on target for BEML, who were sloppy for most part of the encounter. BEML started off on a promising note with Rajesh Jr finding the target in the 11th minute after latching onto a through pass from Murugappan.

Goals dried up for the next 71 minutes as both teams failed to create any clear cut opportunities.

For a brief period of time, at the start of the second-half, CIL enjoyed the lion’s share of possession but they failed to convert any chances.

With the ball hardly moving into the BEML area, mid-way through the second-half a dog strayed down the left flank near the corner flag and rested on the pitch for about 10 minutes or so before walking towards the sidelines and taking another nap infront of the CIL dug out.

Even a goal by BEML — Kalander slotting home a rightwing cross from Murugappan in the 82nd — couldn’t wake up the canine which finally ran away in the 90th minute when an aerial ball fell into its path.

Other result: ‘A’ Division: RBI: 4 (Alwin 7th, Umashanker 14th, 30th, 47th) bt LRDE: 3 (Chandrakumar 44th, 50th, 70th).
