NICE denies encroachment of Gottigere lake

During the hearing of a contempt petition by Vijay Raghavan and others, residents of Gottigere village, Senior Counsel Ananth Mandige, appearing for one of the directors of NICE, submitted that the question of bisecting the lake does not arise as the project had been implemented as per the Court directions.

He pointed out that the road was skirting the boundary of the lake and in no way does it affect the inflow of the lake. He alleged that the appellant was resorting to blackmailing tactics to delay the acquisition and project.

Earlier in the morning, the NICE counsels sought to know whether an interim stay can be ordered in contempt proceedings. The division bench headed by Justice Manjula Chellur adjourned the matter.
