Seven held for heinous crimes across Delhi

Seven persons, including a driver of sex racket kingpin Sonu Punjaban, were arrested for their involvement in over 10 heinous crimes, including road rage in Delhi and neighbouring states, police said on Monday.

With their arrest, south Delhi police claimed to have solved recent cases of carjacking in south Delhi and an incident of road rage in Civil Lines.

Police have also solved a case in Sarojini Nagar, where miscreants assaulted a policeman. When some residents came to save the cop, they shot a man and fled from the spot.

“We have recovered four luxury cars, Rs 15 lakh, eight live cartridges and three country-made pistols from them,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Chhaya Sharma.

The arrested persons have been identified as Din Bandhu, 32, Bijender, 28, Rakesh Arora, 27, Sumit Kumar Mehta, 31, Deepak Arora, 29, Shiva Suri, 19 and Paras Mehta, 21.

Their three associates — Sanjay, Sonu and Sanjiv — are absconding The main accused in all the cases — Deen Bandhu and Bijender — are proclaimed offenders who have been sentenced to life imprisonment in different cases of murder.

“Incidents of robberies and carjacking by using illegal weapons had increased manifold in various parts of capital and neighbouring states. To control such incidents, a team of police officials was assigned. Based on clues and information collected about various gangs with similar modus operandi, the team went to work,” she said.

Police found that some criminals who were recently released from jail were involved in a dacoity-cum-murder incident near Tiz Hazari court on May 28, 2012, involving a sum of Rs 43 lakh. Another incident was also reported from Loha Mandi in Ghaziabad as well as several cases of road rage.

On Sunday, during checking near Moti Lal Nehru College, five persons travelling in a Hyundai Accent car were stopped, but seeing the police they tried to flee. Police nabbed them.

Upon verification, the car was also found to be stolen. Subsequently, a case was registered against all the five persons. Cases under Arms Act were also filed against them as they were found possessing illegal weapons, police said.

During interrogation, police found that they were involved in various cases of dacoity, robbery and road rage.

They used new luxury cars acquired from carjacking for committing robbery in various parts of Delhi. Shiva Suri and Paras Mehta were arrested based on information provided by them.
Police suspect they are involved in more cases.

“Further investigation is on,” said Sharma.
