Children today are limited to the four walls of their classroom and they do not have a clear idea on agriculture and horticulture practices and crops.

With an aim to give them exposure on agriculture, they will be taken on a tour under the Sarva Shiksha Abiyan programme, said Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr K N Vijayprakash after inaugurating the World Environment Day celebrations at Town Hall in Mangalore on Tuesday.

The programme was jointly organised by the  district administration, Matha Amrithanandamayi Mutt and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

The tour will enhance their knowledge and create awareness and hence help them develop a liking towards environment, said the CEO. “Today nature is getting damaged due to the man’s greed. People do not understand what they are losing for temporary gains. There is a need to spread awareness and protect nature.” he said.
