Tinted glass: Respite from traffic police, not RTOs

Last Updated 06 June 2012, 20:10 IST

Vehicle owners with tinted glasses on their four-wheelers will get some respite for about two-three days with the Traffic police deciding to be lenient and educate the public about the rule, before penalising them.

The Transport department will, however, continue fining people who have failed to remove tinted glasses.

DCP, East Divison said: “There is no extension of the deadline. The deadline to remove such glasses expired on June 5. We have only decided to be a little lenient and educate people about the rule. This will last only two-three days and after that we will also begin to fine vehicle owners.”

The Transport department booked over 300 cases since Tuesday.

The department has about 10 squads of RTO officers deputed at each of the RTO divisions, apart from having in place a few patrol squads.

RTO officials said a first-time offender will be fined Rs 100, a second-time offender Rs 300 and a third violation will result in the confiscation of the licence and a fine of Rs 300.
