Little help from DU medical help desk

Last Updated 06 June 2012, 20:44 IST

Change in the location of a makeshift medical help desk which was set up near the form counter at the Faculty of Arts at the Delhi University created confusion for the students.

The doctors and medical attendants shifted to one of the rooms there while the desk which still remains at its old spot is now being utilised by the students to fill their forms.

Several students who were standing in the heat to buy forms complained that no proper banner or notification regarding the medical help desk being relocated was put up.

“The university authorities have put up arrow marks at places where we can’t even see them. Even if we notice these arrows nothing in writing has been put up to signify what they mean. If they are claiming to provide a facility, at least give us enough information to use it,” said Shreemali Dutta Gupta, student who was feeling nauseous.

According to a senior official, the help desk was shifted due to the heat.

“Unwell students can come and relax in the AC room. There is even space for them to lie down. Earlier, it was difficult for the students as well as the doctor and attendants outside,” said the official.

On the first day, the medical help desk got at least 60 to 80 cases of unwell students. “There were few parents also who were feeling sick. Hypertension was one of the main symptoms,” said a medical attendant.

The number of sick students dropped considerably on the second and third day with just around nine students seeking medical help.

While the students cited confusion prevaling over the location of the medical desk for not availing the medical facilities, an official attributed this to the smaller number of students coming to buy the forms.
“We have not got any serious cases yet. The students mostly feel drained out due to the heat. We give them glucose and they are asked to rest for a while,” said the medical attendant.
