Advisory Board to formulate plans for metro network development

The Urban Development (UD) Ministry has constituted a seven-member Metro Advisory Board, to formulate and co-ordinate the development plans for various metro rail networks across the country.

“The Metro Advisory Board is constituted for the purpose of assisting and advising the Centre in matters pertaining to metro railways,” said Sudhir Krishna, urban development secretary.

Krishna said that the board would also look into matters related to finance and execution of any project. The board would  standardise various technical parameters, monitoring procedures and formats.

According to him, the board would work towards indigenisation of various components, used in Metro Rail systems

“We have set up a small committee which is working on the standards for various components which are used in the track system, signalling system, rolling stock or various other structures,” Krishna said.

He said that the UD ministry advised metros to take on property development in cities and  develop land to raise more revenue.
