Mother Dairy, the largest milk supplier in NCR, on Thursday launched an eco-friendly van ‘Kamdhenu’ to cart loose milk in different parts of Delhi and adjoining regions.

The step is part of dairy major’s efforts to do away with 5.75 tonnes of plastic pollutants daily in and around the national capital.

It has started one Kamdhenu van to Faridabad with a capacity to transport 800 litres of loose milk on pilot basis.

“After seeing its success in a month’s time, more such vans will start moving in Delhi and NCR region,” a Mother Dairy spokesman said on Thursday.

Homogenised toned milk

Giving details of the van which was launched on World Environment Day on June 5, the spokesman said, “These are modern, eco-friendly vans which will carry homogenised toned milk in loose form and will be placed at different locations in Delhi-NCR covering even the remotest corners.”

The vans, which will run on CNG, will bring safe, hygienic milk to the doorstep, he added.
“We sell about 11 lakh litres of token milk in Delhi alone and thus ensure more than 5.75 tonnes less consumption of plastic in Delhi everyday,” the spokesman said.

Set up in 1974 under the Operation Flood Programme, a wholly owned company of the National Dairy Development Board, Mother Dairy markets and sells milk and milk products under the Mother Dairy brand.

Mother Dairy markets over 30 lakh litres of milk daily in Delhi and NCR, of which one-third is loose and rest is in poly bags. It has 1,200 exclusive outlets and 15,000 other outlets in Delhi and NCR.
