Home minister R Ashoka said amendments to the Police Act were in the final stages and it would be implemented at the earliest.
He was speaking to mediapersons during his visit to Mandya to campaign for the South Teachers Constituency elections.
Ashoka said amendments would strengthen the police force and also help in controlling cyber crime. He said the cabinet has taken a decision on the issue.
He said the Act would give more powers to police personnel. At the same time, in case of complaints against police personnel an inquiry under a judge would be held against the officer.
BJP district unit president H P Mahesh were present.
