As a tribute to their founder member, Kannada thespian Vishnuvardhan, the Snehaloka Karaoke Club organised a pre-birthday bash in the City recently. Although the big day falls later in the week, the club decided that it would be a perfect opportunity to felicitate the person behind the monthly gatherings where wannabe singers who are not professionals are given a platform to belt out their favourite Hindi and Kannada songs from yesteryears to an appreciative audience.

Meant to be more of a cozy close-knit affair with members of the Karaoke Club and the families, there were plenty of people from Sandalwood who nonetheless turned up to wish the veteran star and shower him with floral tributes, gifts and good wishes.

The actor’s wife Bharti and his children and grandchildren were also present and taking an active part in the celebrations. The theme of the evening was ‘floral’ and the guest made a big effort to get it right. The men were more in keeping with the theme turning up in brightly coloured shirts with the floral motif largely visible. Music director Gurukiran wore a loud black and white number that coincidently matched the outfit of another lady present.

Enthusiastic friends and well-wishers carried in a humungous garland of roses that is normally used in mega political gatherings to garland the veteran star and as popular Kannada film songs were loudly played, there was plenty of bonhomie and good wishes exchanged and the birthday cake was cut.

Janak Madaan, another founder member of the Snehaloka Club, then set the stage for the rest of the evening and the festivities to follow. “When I first met Vishnuvardhan, we instantly clicked as music was a common and shared interest. We formed the Karaoke Club together and it has become a great place for people who love to sing. We meet once a month and have a good time with our families. This was a special event organised for Vishnuvardhan’s birthday along with his family and well-wishers,” he said.

Vishnuvardhan’s daughter Shruti and her husband Aniruddh also sportingly entertained the crowd with a selection of peppy numbers, many of them popular hits from yesteryear’s, which inspired some of the guests to dance. Prizes were given away for the best singers as the evening carried on till late with lot of enthusiastic participation from the gathering.
