Sachin not to have Delhi address

Last Updated 09 June 2012, 20:36 IST

Sachin Tendulkar, who took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on Monday, decided against taking possession of a government bungalow allotted to him in the national capital.

Describing occupying the government bungalow as a “waste of tax payers money,” Tendulkar said he would rather stay at hotels, at his own expense, during his official visits to the city.
Tendulkar was allotted an independent bungalow on Tughlaq lane in Lutyen’s zone, opposite Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s residence, instead of the routine flats earmarked for first time MPs.

However, this is not the first instance of a first time MP being allocated a separate house, cine stars Jaya Prada and Shabana Azmi and Pandit Ravi Shankar being precedents.
