There has been good response for Krishi Aranya scheme of the forest department of State government.

The saplings are ready for sale, at the nursery belonging to forest department in Baikady in Brahmavar.

To maintain the ecosystem and to increase the forest area in the State, the Forest Ministry has launched a special scheme, “Krishi Aranya Protsaha Yojane” (Agriculture Forest Encouragement Scheme), last year, in a bid to popularise afforestation programme among farmers and the public.

Under the scheme, financial assistance would be given to farmers who ensured the survival of the plants distributed to them.

In the first year, the farmers will be given Rs 10 for each sapling, which will be incresed to Rs 15 in the second year and Rs 20 in the third year. A farmer can plant 400 saplings in one hectare land and get the financial assistance.

The interested individuals should register their names with the forest department, to get the saplings.

The farmers should give the map of the land, photocopy of the RTC and a photograph. After registering the names, the farmers can purchase saplings from any nursery belonging to the forest department.

Saplings of jackfruit, mango, cinnamon, Rampathre, honge, beete, Bailuhonnue, Seemakolu and others will be available for the farmers.

However, no financial assistance will be given for saplings of acacia, eucalyptus, silver oak, ‘seemathangadi,’ rubber, coconut, arecanut, orange and so on.
