Last Updated 10 June 2012, 19:20 IST

A BPO employee was found hanging dead in her room at a paying guest house in Hebbal on Sunday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Sheikh Hasina, 21, a native of Madanapalli in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, Hasina had quarreled with her room-mate, Afsar Kousar. The problem began after Hasina, faced with urgent financial needs, borrowed Kousar’s ATM card a month ago to withdraw Rs 4,000. Promising to repay the money in a month, Hasina ran into problems when her monthly salary was delayed by her employer.

Angry at not being repaid on time, Kousar argued with Hasina on Sunday morning, threatening to lodge a complaint with the police. She even went to the station to file a complaint, pleading the police to request Hasina’s presence in the station.

The police then contacted the victim’s father to inform him of the situation. Hasina’s father spoke to Kousar, and said that he would travel immediately to Bangalore to pay his daughter’s debt. Following this, the police allowed both women to return to their PG.
Upon returning home, Kousar allegedly abused and insulted Hasina.

The latter went into her room and locked the door. Kousar, in the meantime, went out for lunch. When she returned, there was no response from within the house. Suspicious, she looked through the room window to see Hasina hanging from the ceiling. There was no suicide note, police said.
