Repair NH-17 immediately, committee urges Moily

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Honourary President of the committee B Govindraj Hegde informed that the delegation met the Union Law Minister as the National Highway Minister Kamalnath was on foreign tour. The works will be taken up after the inspection by the National Highway Department.

The team along with NH-49 “Save Shiradi” Forum members demanded the upgradation of the highway at Shiradi Ghats either by concretising or by rebuilding it. The delegation also urged for proposed bypass work to be taken up immediately, he said.

When former Union Transport Ministry Additional Director General V K Sinha visited Sakhaleshpur, the committee had urged him for immediate action. After thorough inspection, he recommended the sanction of Rs 997.12 lakh for the works. Besides he had technically approved the repair works for Rs 115.40 crore.

An additional demand of Rs 118.50 crore was put forth by the Committee for which the estimate is yet to be made, he said.
