Addressing the gathering after releasing Gowri Ramnarayan's book ‘MS & Radha - Saga of Steadfast Devotion,’ he observed, “Music, in itself, is divine and if performed with devotion, it can achieve astounding results.” The Governor emphasised the importance of knowledge and said “There is no substitute to gyan.”

He recalled his acquaintance with queen of  Carnatic music M S Subbulakshmi, which started during the period of former President R Venkatraman’s period.

The book release, which was organised by Bangalore Gayana Samaja and Suswaralakshmi Foundation to mark the 93rd birth anniversary of the renowned vocalist, preceded a musical tribute in memory of MS by her step-daughter Radha Viswanathan.

Speaking on the occasion, B K Chandrashekhar, former Chairman, Legislative Council, reminisced on the musical genius which MS possessed. He said that she achieved communal harmony through her music, which is still elusive to us. “She is a classic example of the absolute meeting of the minds,” he added.

Dr Srinivasan, former Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission, hailed MS as ‘a great unifier of the country through the idiom of music’. He said that the legendary vocalist enjoyed the respect of all the sections of the society.

Dr Mathoor Krishnamurthi, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, also spoke on the occasion.
