Three unidentified armed miscreants stole a car from Vasant Kunj in south Delhi after seeking lift from its driver when he was headed to Indira Gandhi International  Airport late on Tuesday night.

Vikas Rana, 26, stopped the Maruti Swift car at a tea stall in New Friends Colony while going to pick his boss Ashok Sharma’s friend from the airport  around 11 pm.

“Three men met him at the tea stall and asked him if they would be able to get any bus to Vasant Kunj. When Vikas told them that he was going towards Vasant Kunj, they asked for a lift and Vikas agreed,” a police official said.

However, when they reached near Vasant Kunj, one of the miscreants sitting in the backseat asked Vikas to stop the car. He then came out of the vehicle and told Vikas to step out.

“When Vikas asked why should he leave the vehicle, the man sitting on the passenger seat took out a country-made pistol and kept it on the dashboard,” the official added.

Seeing the pistol, Vikas stepped out of the vehicle after which the trio fled away with the vehicle and its documents, Vikas’ Nokia C3 mobile phone and Rs 1,000 in cash kept in his wallet.

He later sought help from a passerby and informed Ashok about the incident.
A case under section 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death) of the Indian Penal Code has been lodged at New Friends Colony police station.

Vikas hails from Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district and presently stays with Ashok at Indirapuram in Ghaziabad.
