Man kills wife, ends life

Children witnessed gory incidents, boy alerted neighbours

Govindraju (36), a resident of Moodalpalya, allegedly stabbed his wife Yashoda (26) to death, suspecting fidelity. He later hanged himself with his wife’s saree from the ceiling of his house, even as his two children pleaded with him helplessly.

Vijayanagar police said the couple used to quarrel frequently. On Tuesday also, the
deceased had a fight and an agitated Govindraju attacked his wife with a knife.

Their children - Ajay (7) and Bhavya (4) - witnessed the gory incident. They both saw their mother being repeatedly stabbed by their father several times. According to Ajay, his mother could not save herself. “I requested my father not to kill my mother, but he did not listen to me...”

Police said, Ajay also requested his father not to commit suicide. He finally mustered courage and cut the saree used by his father before alerting the neighbours.

Consumes poison

Babu (35), a resident of Kasturba Nagar and a street vendor, died after he was rushed to Victoria Hospital on Tuesday morning. Chamarajpet police said, he was suffering from abdomen pain for the last few days.

He returned home on Monday night and consumed poison. He was rushed to Victoria Hospital, but succumbed.

Hangs self

Shanthakumari (42), a resident of BEL Colony, Jalahalli hanged herself at her house.
Police said, her husband Venkaiah, a BEL employee, was away in Andhra Pradesh when the incident took place. She was suffering from epilepsy and had to take tablets everyday.

She went to a pharmacy to purchase tablets on Monday but the pharmacist refused to give without doctor’s prescription. Unable to bear headache, she woke up in the night and hanged herself.
