Youth plots own kidnap to impress girlfriend

Blind in love

To flaunt his ‘affluence’ and impress his girlfriend, a class 11 student plotted his own kidnapping with the help of his friends and demanded a huge ransom from his family. He is the son of a wealthy jeweller.

Police managed to foil his plan and nabbed his friends, who revealed the entire story. The youth has also been traced.

Ayush Dubey, a student of a well-known English-medium school in Lucknow, went missing on Thursday.

He had gone to a barber’s shop near his house in Thakurganj locality, after which he did not return home till late night. His family members then launched a search.
Ayush’s brother got a call at night to inform him that Ayush had been kidnapped for ransom.

Scaled down

The caller demanded Rs 10 lakh, which was scaled down to Rs 8 lakh.
The shocked family members then approached police, and special teams were formed to crack the case and rescue Ayush.

Police had been monitoring the telephone calls.

They found that the call was made from the number of a friend of Ayush. Police were also able to trace the location of the caller, following which they raided the hideout on Friday.

Three of his friends who had helped him plan the kidnapping were arrested.
They told police that Ayush wanted to impress his girlfriend with his money and had asked them to kidnap him and demand ransom.

“He planned to buy things for his girlfriend with the money,” police said.
“Ayush was in bad company. He used to flaunt his money and plotted his own kidnapping for money,” said Lucknow police chief Ashutosh Pandey.

A case has been registered against the youth, police said.
