Farmer's family gets compensation

 The family of a farmer who had died while working on his farm land, at Kallala-Koyanadu, was given a compensation of Rs 50,000 under Raitha Sanjeevini Accident Insurance Scheme through APMC here on Monday.

APMC President Pudiyokkada Bellu Somaiah, Vice-President Thunthajje Thimmaiah, Director Subhash Somaiah, Jagadeesh, and Secretary Goankar distributed the cheque to K B Somaiah’s wife Kusumavathi on the occasion.

K B Somaiah had died when he fell from a tree in his farm land in September last year.

Somaiah said many farmers are not aware of the insurance scheme.

There is a need to create awareness on the scheme.

The insurance scheme was introduced by the state government in the year 2001. If a farmer or his family members in the age group of 15 to 80 dies while performing the agricultural operations or selling agricultural and horticultural commodities in the market yards etc, a compensation of Rs 50,000 is sanctioned.

If a farmer become handicapped due to accident, then depending upon the seriousness of the injury he is sanctioned a compensation of Rs 1,500 to 15,000. The farmer need not pay any premium towards the scheme.

To avail the scheme, the farmers name should be in the list of voters for APMC election or should produce title deed, certificate from the Tahsildar on the landholdings,  doctor’s certificate to certify the death/injury and death certificate from Gram Panchayat.

The application seeking compensation should be submitted within 60 days of the death to the APMC.
