16,300 HIV positive cases till May '12

Out of 2,05,336 persons tested from 2002 till the end of May 2012, 16,330 were found to be HIV infected, said Dr T Raghuram of the department of health and family welfare.

Participating in a half-day workshop organised for officers of all departments about measures to be taken to tackle HIV-AIDS, the officer said there were 26 HIV testing centres in the district for the benefit of people.

The details of persons, who undergo diagnosis, is kept a secret, he assured.

District health officer Dr S M Malegowda said the final level of HIV is called AIDS.

The infected person at this stage will be sapping of energy with no antibodies. It makes them susceptible to any infection.

Spread message

Chief executive officer of ZP Ajay Nagabushan said it’s the duty of every government servant to spread the message on HIV-AIDS among public.

The workshop had been organised jointly by the district administration, ZP, office of district health and family welfare, Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society, Bangalore, and District AIDS Prevention and Controlling Wing, Mysore.
