Fine tunes

The Bangalore Gayana Samaja is organising a vocal concert by Amrutha Venkatesh on July 1 at 5 pm. She will be accompanied by B K Raghu on the violin, B C Manjunath on the mridangam and G Omkar on the ghatam. The venue is The Bangalore Gayana Samaja, Krishna Rajendra Road.

Piano lessons

The Majolly Music Trust is announcing one scholarship for a deserving student interested in the piano. Criteria for application is that the candidate has to be from a low-income group, but who has interest and enthusiasm to learn the instrument. The chosen candidate will be ably guided by one of the trust’s qualified piano teachers for free, pending a probation of three months from commencement. Vocal strains

Memorial concerts

Ananya is holding ‘Anekal K Ramaswamy Iyengar Memorial Concerts’ in the City. On June 30, 5.30 pm, there will be violin duet by K V Raja Iyengar and Vijaya Kumar Iyengar.

They will be accompanied by Anekal L Krishnappa (mridangam) and Srinivasa Anantharamaiah (morsing).

 There will also be a vocal recital by Anil Murthy. He will be accompanied by Yashasvi S (violin), A S N Swamy (mridangam) and Omkar (ghatam).

On July 1, 10.30 am, there will be a vocal recital by Vinaysharva, accompanied by J K Sridhar (violin), Karaikudi R Ramesh (mridangam).

On the same day, at 6.30 pm, Ragasudhalaya Charitable Trust and Ananya is holding Rutugana Sandhya, a programme based on the compositions of Sadashiva Brahmendra by S Shankar. He will be accompanied by Achyuta Rao (violin) and R Adamya (mridangam). The venue for all the events is Ananya Sabhangana, 4th Main, Malleswaram.

Soothing notes

Vidwan G Ravi Kiran will present a vocal recital on June 30, 6 pm, at Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira, Banashankari II Stage. Charulatha Ramanujan will be on violin, Melakkaveri K Balaji on mridangam and G Guruprasanna on khanjari.

Dance

‘Shraddha...’

Shraddha Nrityarnav-2, a bharatanatyam performance by students of Shama Krishna, will be held on the occasion of the second anniversary of Shraddha Dance Centre, on June 30, 6 pm. This will be followed by a performance by ‘Bharatanjali Dance Ensemble’. The venue is ADA Rangamandira, J C Road.

Varied touch

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will be presenting a variety cultural programme by ‘Bhargavi Arts and Dance’ under the ‘Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme’ on June 29, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

Great moves

World-renowned hip-hop dancer and choreographer Niels ‘Storm’ Robitzky will perform at the Centrestage during the Indo-German Urban Mela at Palace Grounds till June 29, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Niels ‘Storm’ Robitzky is in the City with Patrick Grigo aka ‘B-Boy Parrish’, to conduct an open breakdance workshop, lecture-demonstration, seminar and the battle for ‘B-Boyers’ from Bangalore. ‘Storm’ will share his moves in this high-energy workshop, lecture-demo, seminar, assisted by Patrick Grigo aka ‘B-Boy Parrish’. The workshop will conclude with a breakdance battle, which will be held on June 30, 5 pm.

Bharatanatyam

Aatmalaya Academy Trust will be presenting the bharatanatyam rangapravesha of
Kruthika Ramesh, a disciple of Padmaja Suresh, on July 8, 10.30 am.
The performance will be held at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road.


Pot Pourri

French films

The Alliance Française, the Suchitra Film Society, the French Embassy and the Institut Français will be screening five internationally-acclaimed and award-winning  French films.
The ‘French Film Festival’ will showcase the new generation of French directors like Guillaume Canet and actors like Audrey Tautou.

On June 29, 7 pm, ‘Chicken With Plums’ (Poulet aux Prunes) by Marjanne Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud will be screened.

A Better Life (Une Vie Meilleure) by Cédric Kahn will be screened on June 30, 4.30 pm.

On the same day at 7 pm, ‘Delicacy’ (La délicatesse) by David Foenkinos and Stéphane Foenkinos and on July 1, 4.30 pm, ‘Nobody Else But You’ (Poupoupidou) by Gérard Hustache-Mathieu. On July 1, 7 pm  Poliss (Polisse) by Maïween
will be screened.

Bold in their approach, these five films portray young couples, police officers, writers and musicians looking for inspiration, caught up in the throes of uncertainty.

‘Shibori’ range

Mura Collective is presenting a shibori range in cheerful colours at Vermilion House, 3/12, Cleveland Cross Road, Frazer Town on June 29 and 30, 10.30 am to 7 pm. On display will be saris, fabrics, dupattas and kurtas in silk kota, maheshwari, chanderi and cotton.

Screening

‘Behind the Tin Sheets’ will be screening the film ‘Presence’ on July 1, 7 pm to 9 pm at Cobalt on Church Street, opposite Empire Restaurant.

‘Mangalika’

Mangalika, the annual charity exhibition of items such as handcrafted saris, rakhis, exquisite jewellery, apparels as well as salwar kurta sets, will be open to public from June 27, 10 am to 7 pm, at Lalit Ashoka Hotel, Kalinga Hall.

Rich craft

‘Sampoorn Nature Bazaar-2012’, the exhibition, will be held from June 29 to July 8 at Chitrakala Parishat. As many as 140 craft groups from 20 states will showcase their talent and wares that reflects the culture of our civilization.

 It will have a collection ranging from garments, soft furnishings, accessories, jewellery, toys and leather products to pottery, painting, gifts; and decorative items. Craft demonstrations of lac bangle demo, madhubani painting, etc are a few highlights of this event. There will be a gourmet corner offering organic cuisines. It is open for public between 10.30 am and 8.30 pm.


ART

Iconic sculptures

The National Gallery of Modern Art, Palace Road is presenting ‘Ramkinkar Baij — A Retrospective’, curated by sculptor K S Radhakrishnan, till August 14. The timing is 10 am to 5 pm. The gallery is closed on Mondays. Ramkinkar Baij is one of the most seminal artists of modern India. He was not only an iconic sculptor but also a painter and graphic artist. K S Radhakrishnan was also a student of Ramkinkar.

‘Ever After’

Kynkyny Art is presenting ‘Ever After’, a solo show featuring mixed-media photographs, collages and drawings of Mumbai-based artist Ichha Bhojani, till July 6 at Kynkyny Art, 104 Embassy Square, above Ganjam Jewellers, 148 Infantry Road.

‘Nrityam’

Magnitude Gallery, Jayanagar, is having an exhibition on the theme Nrityam. It is  based on the various dances of India. The authentic regional flavours of the varied dance forms of India have been captured on canvas, in the form of original masterpieces. The folk dances of Eastern India, Northern India, North-West India and South India are presented beautifully. For details, call 9900117201.

‘Sands of Time’

An exhibition of solo paintings called ‘Sands of Time’ by Karttika Goel will be held at Chitrakala Parishat from July 17 to July 22. Soon after completing his professional training, he immersed himself in creating varied works of art — primarily oil on canvas — and showcasing them through various exhibitions and shows.

‘Reprieve’

The Sublime Galleria is presenting an art show, ‘Reprieve’, at the UB City. It is a group exhibition featuring select artists from across India.

The works of art displayed will range from paintings to photographs encompassing varied styles and strokes.  The theme of the exhibition is nature and is an effort to take one back in time and to view nature through this pristine lens. The exhibition will be on till July 31.


DRAMA

‘Neeru Tandavaru’

‘Around the...’

The Bangalore School of Speech and Drama’s (BSSD) annual mega production ‘Around the World in 8 Plays’ will be performed at the Chowdiah Hall on June 29 and 30 at 7 pm by the students of BSSD.

‘Koneya Anka’

Koneya Anka — ‘The Last Act’ will be staged on July 1, 7 pm at K H Kalasoudha, Hanumanthanagar. Yogesh Master, a playwright and director himself, plays the role of a theatre enthusiast, who leads a life of desperation, controlled by a stubborn mother. When his mother is bed-ridden, he gets an opportunity to pour out all his frustrations  and his passion for theatre art.
