Woman dies; husband arrested

Accused had set his wife afire after dousing with kerosene

A woman, who was battling life after suffering burns, following her husband’s alleged bid to murder her, succumbed to the injuries on Thursday.

Ayesha Bhanu (25) is the victim and her husband is Amzad Khan. Ayesha Bhanu was found wailing in pain at her Bade Makhaan residence on Tuesday. She had been rushed to K R Hospital where she breathed her last.

Amzad, a coolie, had married Bhanu from Chilkunda in Hunsur taluk in the district four years ago. The couple has a four-month-old baby. Though he had allegedly been given a dowry at the time the of marriage, Amzad was demanding more.

On that ill-fated day, he allegedly poured kerosene over his wife and set afire, according to Ayesha’s dying declaration to the tahsildar. Following the complaint, N R police had arrested Amzad on Wednesday.

JC for excise personnel

All the nine persons, including the deputy commissioner of excise Y Manjunath, arrested during the Lokayukta raids on Wednesday, were produced before a court in the city on Thursday.

The accused were produced before the special lokayukta court in the morning. They were remanded to one-day judicial custody. They will be produced before the court again on Friday.

Sources told Deccan Herald, that the arrest procedure, following the raid stretched up to midnight. Owing to this, the accused had to be taken to court the following day.

Following a complaint lodged by chairman of Janata Bazaar S Chandrashekar, accusing Manjunath of corruption, the Lokayukta police — in three teams — had raided the excise offices in Mysore.

Apart from the deputy commissioner, two inspectors, two clerks and four guards were arrested in the case.

Youth dies

A 23-year-old youth, who had been hospitalised following an accident recently, succumbed to the injuries on Thursday. Subhash, a resident of Siddhartha Nagar, is the deceased. He had suffered injuries in a mishap that occurred on Mysore-Nanjangud road recently.K R Traffic police have registered a case.

Dead in lake

A 50-year-old woman was found dead in Kukkarahalli lake on Wednesday night.

Learning about the incident, Jayalakshmipuram police retrieved the body on Thursday morning and shifted the same to mortuary.

The woman wearing blue colour nightie, seems to be from a poor family, said a police. A case has been registered.
