Corporal punishment leaves two injured

Villagers demand transfer of HM; stage protest

Condemning the head master of Bettasoge government higher primary school against corporal punishment meted out on students, villagers staged a protest by locking the school,demanding stern action, in Ramanathapura on Friday.

It is alleged that head master K N Kumaraswamy had punished Sandeep and Sudeep with such force that the students were left with bruises over the body and one even landed with a swollen eye.

Sudeep, a fourth standard student received injuries in his eye due to beating and was treated at a hospital in Hassan. Sandeep, studying fifth standard was injured in his chest.

Gram panchayat member Jayakumar and others took taluk teachers association secretary Muthegowda to task for supporting the head master.

Taluk block education officer S Mamatha arrived on the spot and reviewed the complaint lodged by the villagers.

Transfer

Only after Mamatha assured to interact with the department to transfer the head master, the villagers withdrew the protest.

Head master Kumaraswamy accepted to have beaten the students and appealed to the villagers to pardon him.

Gram panchayat president Mahendra Kumar, CRP Giddegowda, B R P Gurumurthy, ECO Lokesh and others were present.
