No loan waiver for now: Sadananda

Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda said the State government is yet to take a decision on loan waiver scheme for farmers.

Speaking to mediapersons during his visit to Nimishamba temple in Srirangapatna, Gowda said the drought has caused havoc in the lives of farmers.

Even though the government has waived the interest on the loans, it would be difficult to waive the loans completely, he added.

Mentioning that banks have been urged not to collect loans forcefully, he said the central government is also not providing the expected compensation. Preparations are being carried out for cloud seeding in the State. Experts from Pune have been invited and cloud seeding would be undertaken in the next two weeks, the chief minister said.

Gowda said 260 MW power is being purchased from Chattisgarh, but due to transmission problems only 90 MW is reaching the State. Measures are being taken to purchase power from private industries, he added.

Water from KRS

At a meeting with farmers and officials, a decision has been taken to release water into canals from KRS Dam for 15 days. The decision has been ta- ken as farmers were complaining that sugarcane was being destroyed due to lack of water.

Gowda said that the Cabinet expansion would take place after the month of Ashada.
