A man was killed and another injured when a speeding mini truck hit them from behind when they were walking on a road at Okhla Industrial Area in south-east Delhi, police said on Wednesday.

Rahul Mishra, 28 hailed from UP’s Sultanpur district and worked as a labourer in the area.
“He was walking on the road in front of Steel Authority of India’s factory in Okhla Industrial Area Phase-1 when a Tata 407 crushed him around 8.30 am on Monday,” a police official said. It also injured another man, Ajay Singh.

A police control room vehicle later took them to the AIIMS trauma centre, where Rahul succumbed to his injuries. A doctor at the hospital said Ajay’s condition was initially critical, but is now out of danger.

Ajay later told police that the driver of the mini truck was speeding and driving recklessly.
Driver Mohammad Mujammal Haque, who hails from Maldah district of West Bengal, was overpowered by locals and handed over to police.

A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered at Okhla police station. Police have also seized the vehicle.
