A man was allegedly battered to death with bricks by his friends after a heated argument at Madhu Vihar in east Delhi late on Wednesday night.

Ujwal Das lived at Joshi Colony in IP Extension and worked as a driver.  An initial police investigation revealed that he left home on Wednesday evening to consume alcohol with his friends.

“The incident came to light after we received a call at the police control room reporting that a man was lying unconscious in Madhu Vihar,” a police official said.

“He was identified as Ujwal with the help of an identity card in his pocket,” he added.

Ujwal was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries before treatment.

Violent argument

Police suspect that Ujwal and his friends may have entered into an argument after their drinking spree.

“As they were under the influence of alcohol, the argument may have turned violent after which Ujwal’s friends started beating him,” the official added.

A case of murder has been registered and cops are recording statements of Ujwal’s family members and friends to establish the identity of the killers.

“We are investigating the matter from all angles. If any of his friend is found to be
missing, he would be a suspect. However, nothing could be said until we trace his friends and take their statements,” the official added.

Ujwal’s body is preserved at the hospital for a post-mortem. Police have also informed his family in West Bengal, but they had not reached Delhi till late Thursday.
