CBI court permits ED to question Jagan

The CBI Special Court on Friday gave its nod to the Enforcement Directorate to question Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the  disproportionate assets case.

The court asked the ED to complete its questioning from 10 am to 5 pm at Jagan’s current place of imprisonment, the Chanchalguda jail, in the presence of his lawyers.

The decision follows the hearing on Monday in which both the ED and Jagan had presented their respective arguments. Jagan had filed an application opposing the ED petition contending that he was no longer chairman or director of Jagati Publications and that the ED could question those appearing on behalf of the company.

Jagan’s counsel also argued that the YSRC leader, being an under-trial, will have no access to the vital documents and therefore will not be in a position to answer ED’s queries effectively.

Jagati Publications, which publishes the Telugu daily 'Sakshi', reportedly received investments from firms based abroad in return for the favours doled out to them by the Y S Rajasekhara Reddy government.

The directory has already booked Jagan for the alleged violation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and the Foreign Exchange Management Act.

Last week, it questioned industrialist Nimmagadda Prasad, suspended bureaucrats BP Acharya and KV Brahmananda Reddy in Chanchalguda Central Jail here in the same case.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh High court , slightly changing its earlier order to defreeze current accounts of  Sakshi Media and Janani Infra , asked the firms to provide a 50 per cent bank guarantee to its funds. On Friday, Jagan’s YSR Congress Party held its mini plenary at the headquarters.

Headed by honorary president Y S Vijayamma, the party passed a resolution unanimously to abide by Jagan’s decision regarding the party’s support to the presidential candidate.
