In a suspected case of honour killing in Punjab, a father killed his daughter and his son-in-law in cold blood after both got married against their wishes.

The body of the woman was recovered from a canal, police said on Friday.  The incident took place at a village in Punjab’s Ludhiana district.

According to police, the woman, Kulwant Kaur, and the man Jagtar Singh, were kidnapped three days ago by the woman’s father Gurpal Singh, his sons and about half-a-dozen other persons.

Body dumped

They were murdered the same night and their bodies were dumped into a canal. While Kaur’s body has been traced, police are yet to trace Jagtar’s body. The woman was from Raikot village in Ludhiana and the man was from Phulewal village in Moga district.

The man’s father had filed a complaint on July 3 with police. He said the marriage was not accepted by the woman’s family, and had threatened his son. Fearing for their life, the couple left the village.

However, the woman’s family got to know where they had gone and followed them.
The father and two accused have been arrested so far.
