'No funds to gram panchayats'

Addressing reporters, he said that while Rs 6 lakh was released for the panchayat, Rs 3.60 lakh was deducted in the form of electricity bill. At the same time, MESCOM authorities too failed to provide details about the bill, he alleged. Further, he charged that the Zilla Panchayat is not carrying out the drinking water supply works.  Development works worth Rs 5 crore were undertaken in the panchayat, while the annual income was Rs 20 lakh, he said. Drainages and community halls were constructed using Rs 3 crore sanctioned under the Suvarna Gramodaya Sheme, he informed.
