Blood donors by 'accident'

Whenever a mishap occurs, timely medical aid may help victims survival. To be precise, it’s called golden hour.

Sheeraz Ahmed, an engineering student of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) in the city, was fatally knocked down by a tipper lorry recently. He was the only son to his parents- Sarfaraz Ahmed Shah and Mumtaz Begum couple.

On Saturday, a bunch of friends of Sheeraz donated blood for the cause of the needy. The initiative though taken up in memory of their friend, was to help mishap victims, who at time lose life only due to loss of blood. If attended to them at the earliest, infusing blood may help them regain life to the fullest.

Sheeraj’s friends Ankit, Kiran, Amit, Vashist among others who had earlier organised a football match in remembrance of their close pal, thought of blood donation as second activity.

When the friends thought of organising activities in Sheeraz’s memory, what came in the mind was a football match. It was under- 19 football match and 12 teams took part in the same. The tourney was won by foreign students.

They took to facebook, a social networking site to rope in other like-minded people for blood donation and they also succeeded. It was evident with 45 bottles of blood collected, majority of them youth and  also a few elderly people.

Vashsita told Deccan Herald, the response was overwhelming and there were more than 45 people who were willing to donate blood. But, lack of equipment stymied their (donors) interest. The blood collected was donated to the dedicated bank of K R Hospital.

The activities doesn’t end here. The friends have plans for another blood donation camp in next three months and also distributing aid to organisations. May their tribe increase.
