'Infrastructure in Kodagu district is disappointing'

Though the local governing bodies had the plans to repair the city roads, continuous rains came as obstacle to this. Hence major roads in the city are in bad condition. The heavy rains that lashed over the district during July not only spoilt the roads in Madikeri but also chipped off the roads all over the district.

Town Municipal Council did take up road works in August when the rains subsided but unfortunately rain struck back within two days of commencing the repair works due to which the works had to be stopped. The Council had decided to fill the potholes at a cost of Rs 10 lakh and the works were even handed over to the contractors.

It may be recalled that some years ago Council had filled potholes with grid stone gravel since the rains did not stop till the end of Dasara. Even this year, Council is planing to use gravel to fill the potholes, in case the rains do not stop.

Kodagu district receives heavy rainfall for about 6 months and due to this characteristics, roads get damaged within few months of repair. At the same time, some roads are damaged due to poor quality work too. The Council has now realised the need to get quality road work done in the district to avoid last minute hurdles as it is facing now.
