Taking her Facebook discourse to new heights, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said ‘spineless’ politicians are growing in numbers.

In her latest post, Mamata said, “Nowadays, I am not surprised, when I see the growing numbers of so-called ‘political leaders’ have no spines. In my opinion, it has become a potential area of doing research work on this aspect.”Without naming anybody Mamata wrote, “Age-old cherished ideals, courage and closest links with the roots of common people of the country are not found. That is why, they have become weak and afraid to fight for the cause of the common people and unveil the truth”.

“I believe in the responsibility of the leadership to put demands of the people foremost and to grow as human beings. I do hope and expect young generation to realise the present state of poor leadership qualities, devoid of ideals and values,” she added.

Though Mamata later told reporters that the post was not meant for any  or political party in particular it was a general observation but urban development minster Firhad Hakim said, “We have ousted CPM after a long struggle but when we see that, forgetting the larger interest of the people and the state, politicians and some political parties hobnob with them and fight for narrow self-interest then it really hurts”.Reacting sharply to the statement, senior Congress leader Nirbed Roy said, “She has told the right thing but that is about her own party and not any other party. They have politicians who are really spineless”.
