Two get lifer for murder

The 17th Fast Track Court sentenced two persons –– Ayyappa and Jithendra –– to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of them in a murder case in Madivala. The verdict was pronounced by Judge S K Vantigodi.

On the evening of September 26, 2010, two groups clashed over a petty issue during an orchestra programme in Balaji Layout in Hongasandra.

A local resident, Dinesh, intervened and slapped Ayyappa while trying to stop the fight. Insulted by this, Ayyappa decided to settle scores with him.

The next day, when Dinesh, his brother Shravan Kumar, Manjunath and Naresh were removing the tent installed for keeping the Ganesha idol, Ayyappa and his associates –– Jithendra, Vasu, Ishwar, Madesha, Palani, Tirupathi and Jopadi –– came to the spot  around 7.45 pm and picked up a quarrel with Dinesh.

Ayyappa slapped Dinesh and later his associates stabbed him on his chest and abdomen. Dinesh succumbed to the injuries and the attackers absconded.

The police launched a search operation and arrested six of the eight accused –– Ayyappa, Jithendra, Vasu, Ishwar, Madesha and Palani, and sent then to prison. Vasu died in the prison.

The police interrogated 17 eye witnesses and filed 11 documents. The court acquitted Ishwar, Madesha and Palani due to lack of evidence. Tirupathi and Jopadi are still at large.
