Shimoga celebrates DyCM post for KSE

Even before State BJP President K S Eshwarappa’s appointment as deputy chief minister was made official, his supporters had taken to the streets with fireworks, and distributed sweets outside his home at Gundappa Shed Layout in Shimoga on Tuesday.

When asked by Deccan Herald why he wants to give up the presidential post instead of leading the party to the next elections, he said, “What can I do? I have been asked to take up the new responsibility.”

At the current time, no replacement has been identified for the now-vacant post of State BJP president.

“Until a new president is appointed, I will be holding the post,” he said. “But it is currently against party principle for an individual to hold two posts.”

As Eshwarappa represents the Shimoga City seat in the Assembly, thousands of party workers are expected to leave Shimoga for Bangalore on July 11 to take part in the oath-taking ceremony.

It is said that the BJP may pitch in a Dalit leader for the post to be vacated by Eshwarappa.

Social Welfare Minister A Narayanswamy’s name is making rounds for the president post besides Minor Irrigation minister Govind Karjol. Both are Dalits.
