A rare surgery was successfully performed by a team of doctors at a government hospital to save the life of a man diagnosed with ‘thoracic aortic aneurysm’ — a condition with arterial swelling in the chest cavity.

Narayan Singh, 30, a farmer, was successfully operated upon last week at the SMS government hospital for the condition which could cause life-threatening haemorrhage, said Dr R M Mathur, under whose direction the operation was carried out. Singh was having acute pain with swelling on the back of left side of chest for the last one year, Mathur said.

During examination, it was found that the swelling had a  pulsation matching with the heart, he added.
“It was a challenging operation because the risk factor was quite high. The patient is recovering fast,”  he said. He added partial femoro-femoral bypass was done in order to save blood loss.
