'Rape victim' delivers baby, wants DNA test of ex-BSP minister

Accused allegedly promised her a job

A woman who had charged a former BSP minister with raping her repeatedly on the pretext of giving her a job has delivered a baby and demanded a DNA test to find out whether the politician is the child's father.

The resident of Bargarh village in UP’s Chitrakoot district delivered the baby at a government health centre on Sunday. As the baby’s condition was not good, the infant was referred to a hospital at Allahabad.

The woman, daughter of a retired railway employee, in October last year accused Daddu Prasad rural development minister in the Bahujan Samaj Party government of raping her.

In her statement to police, she had said Prasad’s personal assistant Angad Singh had raped in 2008 on the pretext of getting her a job.She said Singh later introduced her to Prasad, who also repeatedly raped her.

“He took advantage of my poverty and used to rape me after calling me at his official residence in Lucknow,” the girl told police on October 16, 2011. Prasad was also an MLA from Chitrakoot.

“When I became pregnant, Prasad asked me to abort and threatened me with dire consequences if I refused,” she had alleged.

The district police had filed a rape case against Singh but spared Prasad. Singh was subsequently arrested and he is still in jail.

Her application to make Prasad an accused in the matter is also pending in court.
The then Mayawati government had given a clean chit to Prasad and had termed the allegations politically motivated.

Prasad was denied Assembly nomination by Mayawati and his wife was fielded by BSP in his place.
The woman said she will not rest till she gets justice. She said she will move court with an application seeking the DNA test of the former minister.
