Youth jailed for robbing NSG commando's wife

A 22-year-old youth has been jailed for eight years by a Delhi court for robbing the wife of a National Security Guard commando of her gold chain and injuring him at New Delhi railway station in 2011.

Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Jain sentenced Delhi resident Sheikh Munna, convicting him of charges of attempt to murder and robbery.

“Since the complainant and her husband were attacked at the railway station, such incidents creates fear among passengers and tourists, and gives a bad name to the city,” the court observed.

The incident happened on March 12 last year and a complaint was filed with New Delhi railway station police station.

The complainant, Asha Rani, said she was with her minor daughter and her husband B Udai Raj, an NSG commando, at New Delhi railway station to take a train to their hometown.

Suddenly, a man tried to snatch her gold chain. Raj,  managed to catch the thief, but his two accomplices snatched the gold chain and fled.

During the scuffle, the man took out a knife and assaulted Raj on his face and arms.
