Ranbir dons the director’s hat

Ranbir Kapoor is much more than the chocolate boy of Bollywood and the heart-throb of millions — apparently, he’s also quite a keen director.

At a special shoot for Barfi, where a short video had to be recorded for a digital platform, Ranbir’s directorial instincts suddenly came to the fore. Since Anurag Basu wasn’t around to keep an eye on things, Ranbir took the task upon himself. What’s more, he didn’t stop at that — instead, he also turned makeup man and creative head for the project.

Being the star of the film, Ranbir understands it inside-out and didn’t hesitate to apply this know-how.

Everyone was amazed to see the star’s eye for detail, and his input in terms of make up also came in very handy. In fact, Ranbir cancelled his day-off to make sure he was around to complete the video.

Shikha Kapur, the execute director of studios at Disney UTV, says, “When we decided to create an online promotional video, we were excited to see Ranbir at his best. His inputs have helped create an interesting video.”

Interestingly, Ranbir Kapoor studied film making at The Lee Strasberg Film Institute in New York before assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali on ‘Black’ in 2005.Barfi is set to release on September 14.

 Praise for the circus girl

Tannishtha Chatterjee has a lot to be thankful for. She recently attended the London Indian Film Festival, as her upcoming film Dekh Indian Circus, presented By Imtiaz Ali, was showcased at the festival.

To the actress’s amazement, the response to the film was fabulous and everyone present at the festival was praising Tannishtha for her remarkable performance in the film.

Incidentally, both Tannishtha and Nawazuddin Siddique received the best actor (both male and female) at the New York Indian Film Festival for the same film.  Tannishtha admits that she’s glad that her performance in the film has been recognised by audiences around the world.

Predictably, she gives all credit to her director Mangesh Hadawale, since she believes that actors are nothing more than a part of a director’s vision. She also adds that Mangesh is so clear about what he wants that he made it very easy for her to take to her role.  Tannishtha is clearly excited about the film, but her attention has already moved on — she is currently dubbing for her upcoming film with Purab Kohli and is all set to begin shooting for another with Javed Jaffrey.

An icy adventure for Aditi

Aditi Rao Hydari might not have created any ripples at the box office with her artsy hair-dos and glasses in ‘London Paris New York’, but she does have something to look forward to — she has been roped in to sing a special Hindi version of the ‘Ice Age’ theme song ‘We Are Family’.

The ‘Ice Age’ franchise — starring Manny the mammoth, Diego the sabre-tooth tiger and Sid the sloth, is a favourite with both kids and adults and the latest installment, titled ‘Ice Age 4: Continental Drift’ promises even more action and adventure than before. The international version of the song has been sung by pop sensation Jennifer Lopez, and other actors who are voicing key characters in the film. The unique Indian twist is being planned with a music video as well.

Confirming that she will, in fact, be lending her voice for the song, Aditi says, “I will be singing in Hindi and I feature in a special music video as well.”

Apparently, Aditi is also quite a fan of the series. She admits, “The series just grew on me. I feel that the antics and funny camaraderie of Sid, Manny and Diego make this series watchable again and again. I love how these completely different animals become friends unwittingly and go through the most unusual and unique adventures together in each film. It is perhaps one of the best examples of a complete family film, where there is something for everyone. It has a powerful story, fantastic action, eccentric wit and comedy — and it’s in 3D!”

Directed by Steve Martino and Mike Thurmeier, the film stars the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah and many more new names such as Jennifer Lopez, Kunal Nayyar — of the ‘Big Bang Theory’ fame — and Peter Dinklage.
