3 engg colleges yet to get AICTE nod

Last Updated 11 July 2012, 18:14 IST

Just a few hours before the maiden online counselling for undergraduate professional courses begins on Thursday morning, it has emerged that three engineering colleges, including two popular ones, have not received the mandatory approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli, and St Joseph’s Engineering College, Mangalore, have not been approved by the AICTE.

While BVBCET did not get the approval because of a technical error, the lack of approval for BMSCE has been attributed to its alleged violation of an AICTE norm, well-placed sources said.

Siddaiah, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, confirmed that the three colleges had not obtained the approval.

Consequently, these are unlikely to be included in the list of colleges where government seats will be available.

BVBCET Vice-Principal B L Desai sought to play down the issue, terming it a “technical glitch”. “Getting the approval won’t be a problem,” he said.

Among medical colleges, the new institute started by Tadikele Subbaiah Trust in Shimoga is said to have not received the approval from the Medical Council of India.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) did not get the seat matrices from the State government till late Wednesday evening.  Siddaiah said that the matrices were being prepared and would be given to KEA in “a few hours”.

According to KEA Executive Director, Rashmi V Mahesh, the matrix for medical/dental seats was expected by 11 pm, and that for engineering courses by midnight.

“Our work is not done yet. We won’t relax until the matrices are uploaded on the website,” Rashmi told Deccan Herald.

She, however, said that the colleges will be included in the seat matrix during the option entry process if they manage to get the necessary approval.
