TDP losing ground in NTR den

Jagans calculated moves in the heart of Coastal Andhra paying dividends

The Gudivada Assembly seat, once represented by the late NT Rama Rao, has been a strong hold of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP ) in coastal Andhra Pradesh. The TDP has won this seat eight times.

But this time, the TDP may find it hard to retain the seat. Party  MLA Kodali Nani, suspended from the TDP for meeting Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in jail, is bound to join the YSR Congress.

Strong leaders and youth icons from Kapu community such as Machilipatnam MLA Perni Nani and former Vijayawada MLA Vangaveeti Radha Krishna, both from the Congress, have already joined hands with Jagan. A few Telugu Desam MLAs, who see no future for the party after the 2014 elections, are making a beeline to join Jagan’s party.

Just a day after Gudivada MLA Kodali Nani was suspended by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for meeting archrival YS Jaganmohan Reddy in Chanchalguda jail, the beleaguered party lost its party’s politburo member and Dalit leader Uppuleti Kalpana, also of Krishna District to YSR Congress Party. Kalpana was suspended on late Tuesday night after she met YSRC leader and Nellore MP, Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy.

Meanwhile, Chinnam Rama Kotaiah, TDP’s Nuzivid MLA, who has been keeping Chandrababu Naidu guessing for a while, staged a rebellion after Nani’s suspension.

‘Undemocratic move’

“Its undemocratic on the part of the party president not giving a chance to Nani to explain his position,” the Nuzvidu MLA said. Rama Kotiah is said to be in touch with the YSRCP and has announced that he will not be contesting on TDP ticket in the 2014 elections. He is waiting for a green signal from Jagan.

Naidu sold RS seat for Rs 300 crore Addressing a press conference in Gudivada, the suspended party MLA, Kodali Nani launched a frontal attack on Naidu and said that Naidu has no right to continue as party  president after severe beating in  the by-elections. “Naidu who has back stabbed late NTR, hence has no right to suspend me for meeting Jagan. I know who Naidu is …he sold  Rajya Sabha seats for Rs 300 crore,” he alleged.

Drawing similarities between TDP founder NTR and late YS Rajasekhar Reddy , Nani said that both stood by their words and did yeomen service to the poor and downtrodden. Nani said that he is looking for legal options against his suspension. He added that he might join the YSRCP if Naidu fails to apologize for suspending him even without serving a show cause notice.

Even though the leaders available at the TDP headquarters in Banjara Hills reacted angrily to Nani’s outbursts in Gudivada on Wednesday, they privately confess that NTR’s sons Harikrishna and Balakrishna might be behind Nani’s episode to counter Naidu’s grandiose plans to induct his son Nara Lokesh as party’s youth wing president.
