Engineer murders colleague over woman they liked

Victim was run over with a car, set ablaze

A 25-year-old BTech student has been arrested for kiling his colleague over a woman they both wanted to be friends with.

Two accomplices have also been nabbed in connection with the murder of Joginder Singh, 35, who was deliberately run over with a car and later set ablaze in south west Delhi's Jaffarpur Kalan on Saturday night, police said.

Gurgaon-based Sandeep was pursuing a  BTech degree through distance learning and had been working as an assistant engineer with a private firm for the past five years.

“Sandeep, along with Prem, 19, and Soni, 32, were held following a probe after Joginder’s body was found lying near Sarangpur on July 8. His body was partially burnt and blood was found scattered all around on the road,” said Anil Kumar Ojha, additional commissioner of police (south west).

The body was identified by his brother Dharmender, who said Joginder had gone to visit his friends on July 7 but did not return home. He had also informed Haryana Police about Joginder's mysterious disappearance.

Police initially questioned Joginder’s family and friends but could not get a clue.

“A team later surveyed areas adjoining the crime scene to recreate the incident. We managed to unearth that Joginder and Sandeep were seen together on the fateful night,” Ojha added.

Investigation revealed that Sandeep and Joginder worked together in the firm. Sandeep was found absconding from his rented room at Rajiv Nagar, Gurgaon.

“We, however, managed to nab him from Dhansa village in west Delhi,” Ojha said.

During sustained interrogation he broke down and confessed to have killed Joginder with Prem and Soni’s help. He revealed that he was working under Joginder’s administrative control and was friends with him.

Problem started between them when Joginder told the junior colleague that he wanted to develop relations with his friend.

“Joginder was warned about this but he did not mend his ways. Finally, Sandeep decided to eliminate him,” Ojha added.

Sandeep told police that on Saturday night, he called Joginder to east Rajiv Nagar in Gurgaon.

Sandeep, Prem and Soni made him drink liquor in excess. When he was in a stupor, the three men took him to Sarangpur in a Hyundai Santro car.

They ran over him with the car, poured petrol over him and set him on fire.

Police have seized the car used in the crime and recovered Joginder’s ATM cards from the trio’s possession.

Sandeep was pursuing BTech, second semester, from Rohtak, Haryana.
