United Nations Under-Secretary General for political Affairs B Lynn Pascoe told Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama that there was ‘no torch carrying’ for the LTTE in the UN system and that the world body was keen to continue its engagement with Sri Lanka. The foreign minister, during the meeting, outlined the progress made so far and in particular referred to the recently concluded local body elections in the North.

He also mentioned about the ongoing family reunification programmes, resettlement, enabling children in the IDP welfare villages and ex-combatants to sit in the GCE Advanced Level examinations, a foreign ministry statement said.

The submission of the devolution package proposals being worked out by the All Party Representative Committee and the participation of the Pro-LTTE Tamil National Alliance in the ongoing political progress was also discussed by the two leaders. Pascoe  said the UN have continued to be supportive of the efforts of the Sri Lankan Government.
