‘I don’t want to be stereotyped’

Ever since Kavita Lankesh’s Crazy Loka hit the big screen, one person who has been basking in its glory is newbie Suriya. The movie may not have had the desired run at the box office, but the actor-cum-model says he is more than happy with the response he received for his performance in the film.

Calling the movie the perfect platform, Suriya says, “The movie really enabled me to showcase my talent and I am also very grateful to everyone in the industry and the media who gave me such encouraging reviews.”

Which is why Suriya wants to carefully plan and take his time before he makes his next move. “This is a critical time for me, because the next movie I do will either take me to a all new high or low,” he explains. In fact, the actor is making it a point to listen to scripts along with his mother, who is also his manager. “I trust my family and believe that they will know what is best for me. That’s why we are taking things at a snail’s pace,” says Suriya, who is currently busy with his modelling assignments.

But by the end of the year, Suriya is all set to start work on his next venture with debutante director Neelam Singh. “This is a romantic flick and I found the story to be very sensible and real — that’s why I gave it a go-ahead,” says Suriya, who will be playing the role of a college student in the movie.

Suriya is quick to add that this romantic film is very different from his previous one. “My role in Crazy Loka was more to do with the relationship I shared with my father in the movie. But here, it’s an out-and-out romantic movie. I don’t feel there will be any similarities and I don’t want to be stereotyped,” he says.

Playing the solo lead means there will be a lot of pressure on the actor, but Suriya seems confident. “I believe more than the actors, it’s the script that carries the story ahead. I trust the script and the director — so there is no need to be pressurised,” he sums up.

A song to watch out for

The team of Andar Bahar recently shot for a song at Rockline Studios. The song, Maleyali Mindha Hoovina Haage…. saw the leading actors Shivarajkumar and Parvathi Menon dancing to the steps of choreographer Imran Sardaria. With two special sets erected only for this song, debutante director Phaneesh says that it will definitely be a song to watch out for.

Calling it one of his best movies, Shivarajkumar says, “After Om, this would turn out to be one of my best films. It is based on the underworld. The narration moves in a zigzag pattern, making it interesting to the audience.”

Rajneesh, one of the producers of the film, states that he feels blessed to have gotten an
opportunity to work with actors like Shivarajkumar and Parvathi Menon.  “They bring such amazing energy to the sets,” adds Rajneesh, who reveals that almost 70 per cent of the film has been completed.
