<p>Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj has said that B C Mylarappa, the present registrar of the Bangalore University, will not become the vice chancellor as long as he is the governor.<br /><br /></p>.<p>“The decision to appoint Mylarappa was never taken by me. It was a government decision in which I have no say. But if left to me, he would have never become the registrar,” Bhardwaj said here on Friday. The governor is also the pro-chancellor of the varsities.<br /><br />Bhardwaj was speaking at the inauguration of Malaviya series of lectures in Raj Bhavan.<br /><br />Criticising the registrar style of functioning, Bhardwaj said Mylarappa was being more of a politician than an academician.<br /><br />Referring to the tussles in Bangalore University, Bhardwaj said persistent delay in holding mandatory Syndicate meetings was a prominent problem. He suggested the vice-chancellor to face the Syndicate meetings bravely.<br /><br />He said the one-man inquiry committee of Justice Shivashankar Bhat, investigating the complaints of large-scale malpractices in examination of distance education courses at various study centres, will submit its report in the next two days. <br /><br />“The inquiry is impartial. Once I get the report, I will discuss the matter with the State government and decide the measures to correct the system,” he said.<br /><br />Citing lack of quality teachers in the universities to raise the standard of education, the governor said universities known to impart quality education had been failing over the years.<br /><br /> “Look at Mysore university. The university, hailed as equivalent to Cambridge or Oxford, has changed (for the worse) in terms of its education,” he noted.</p>
