Charge sheet filed against legislator

The Lokayukta police on Friday submitted a charge sheet against BJP MLA S Muniraju, charging him with fabricating revenue records and encroachment in Kereguddadahalli in Yeshwantpur hobli.

The 800-page charge sheet comes after the Lokayukta police obtained permission from the Speaker for prosecuting the Dasarahalli legislator.

An investigation was taken up against Muniraju following a private complaint filed by Puttaswamy, a resident of Kereguddadahalli, stating that the former attempted to secure one acre 15 guntas of land belonging to Mallamma, the mother-in-law of Puttaswamy.

The names of Ranganath, a tahsildar and Suresh, a revenue inspector, charged with aiding the MLA in obtaining the documents figure in the charge sheet.

However, the names of Parameshwarappa and Rajamma, two private persons named in the complaint, have been dropped from the charge sheet as the allegations against them could not be proved. The matter has been adjourned to July 17.

According to the Lokayukta police, Muniraju had purchased 30 guntas of land from one Keshavmurthy in 1995 and then sold the land in 1996. After becoming an MLA, he tried to get 21 guntas in the same piece of land as the khata was still in his name.

Muniraju acquired 21 guntas along with another 14 guntas of encroached land, divided them into 38 sites and sold them off to different people. However, none of the purchasers had obtained khatas for their land. Taking advantage of this, Muniraju tried to obtain a mutation record on this land as the khata was still in his name.

Ranganath and Suresh are said to have aided him procuring the false mutation record.
