Maken slams Kalmadi

Sports Minister Ajay Maken said it is “absurd” that Suresh Kalmadi has asked for his resignation and reiterated that the sacked Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman should not go for the London Olympics.

Maken said Kalmadi has no moral right to ask for his resignation. “It is absolutely absurd for Kalmadi to ask for my resignation. He is the one who has been chargesheeted for corruption charges by the CBI, he has been suspended by the Congress party. He has no moral right to ask for my resignation,” Maken said on Sunday on the sideline of Olympic send-off by ONGC.

“He will not be the part of the official Indian delegation that is going for the Olympics. We have told the IOA to take up the matter with the International Association of Athletics Federation and the IOC and revert to us.

A Delhi court had allowed Kalmadi to attend the London Olympics which prompted a sharp reaction from Makan. Kalmadi, in turn, asked for his resignation, accusing him of contempt of court and interference in the functioning of sports federations.
