Traditional motifs, modern vibes

With Varamahalakshmi just around the corner, Deepam Silks has introduced its latest collection, which not only caters to the young but also to traditional sari lovers. Moreover, the brand is having its Varamahalakshmi sale, where they are offering a 40 per cent discount on the entire range of bridal, formal and party-wear saris.

The launch of the sale was held at the Jayanagar store, with actress Deepa Sannidhi gracing the event. “As a kid, one of the very first sari stores that I visited was ‘Deepam’. Those days I used to be in awe of all the designs and hope that someday, I would be able to get a sari from here. And that came true when I turned 15 and my parents bought me my first sari from this very store itself,” recalls Deepa.

She goes on to add how much she likes the new designs. “What struck me the most about these saris was the unusual patterns and I always go for saris that are different and stand out in a crowd,” she says.

Designer Karthik Monju also introduced a new range of kanjeevaram saris with a contemporary twist. “I have taken inspiration from post-modern art and designs and tried to incorporate that into traditional kanjeevaram saris. It is a new concept and I am sure that people of all age groups can associate themselves with it,” he adds.

With motifs of bubbles placed all over the pallu, one sari represented a very techno theme. Another had a lot of leaves and flowers on it, which were given an extra layer that brings out shadows, thereby creating a three-dimensional effect.

“This is a work in progress. We wanted to give the sari a 3-D effect and in due time, we will be coming out with more designs where it will look like the leaves are falling,” he adds. Another concept tried out in the collection is colour blocking in the border. “I have largely experimented with reds, yellows and blues in this,” he says.

The sale will be on till July 29 and the stores will be open from 10.15 am to 9.30 pm.
