JD(S) blamed for Saradagi's defeat

Last Updated 16 July 2012, 19:12 IST

Former JD(S) MLC Abdul Azim on Monday alleged that JD(S) State president H D Kumaraswamy and Chamarajpet MLA Zameer Ahmed Khan were responsible for the defeat of Congress candidate Iqbal Ahmed Saradagi in the recently held election to the Legislative Council.

Azim alleged that the Kumaraswamy-Khan duo brought pressure on MLAs of the Congress and the BJP to cross vote to help the independent candidate in the election. That resulted in the defeat of Saradagi. But the two have been blaming the Congress for Saradagi’s defeat, he added.

Azim quit the JD(S) for not being made an MLC for the second term in the recently held election to the Council from the Assembly. Instead, the party sent Syed Mudeer Aga to the Upper House. The former police officer had joined the JD(S) eight years ago.

“I honestly worked for the JD(S) for several years. Kumaraswamy could not digest my growth in the party nor was he ready to heed to any of my suggestions. Though I had brought it to the notice of party chief H D Deve Gowda, no effort was made to set right the problems. Hence I decided to quit the party,” he stated.

He said he has joined the list of those who have quit the JD(S) due to ill-treatment.

“Zameer Ahmed Khan has been trying to emerge as the Muslim face of the JD(S). But people belonging to the community will not be carried away by such gimmicks,” he added.
