Dissidence haunts bungalow

In a clear indication that factionalism in the BJP is far from over, the State government on Monday cancelled allotment of the No 2 government bungalow on Race Course Road to Municipal Administration Minister Balachandra Jarkiholi and allotted it to Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje.

The bungalow was previously occupied by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who vacated it recently.

D V Sadananda Gowda allotted it to Jarkiholi before quitting as the chief minister on July 10. But Jarkiholi had not occupied it.

Yeddyurappa used to consider No 2 Race Course Road as a lucky residence. He used to stay there even when he was the chief minister. He was forced to vacate it after resigning as the chief minister.

Now Shobha Karandlaje, who is his close confidante, wants to occupy it.

Jarkiholi is leading a group of BJP MLAs who are against Yeddyurappa. He used to support Sadananda Gowda as the chief minister.

When contacted, Jarkiholi said: “I will not vacate the bungalow at any cost. I have already occupied it. I will stay there for at least the next three months. I did not ask Sadananda Gowda to allot the bungalow to me. He himself allotted it.”

When contacted, DPAR Additional Secretary (protocol) B V Kulkarni said the order allotting the bungalow to Shobha has been issued following directions from the chief minister.
